Eagle Elementary Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day & Strengthens Partnership with UW-Whitewater
Eagle, WI – Eagle Elementary School (EES) is proud to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st, reinforcing its commitment to inclusion, awareness, and community support. In addition, the school continues to foster future educators through its ongoing partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW), providing valuable teaching experiences for interns, student teachers, and field students.
World Down Syndrome Day – Rock Your Socks!
World Down Syndrome Day, observed annually on March 21st, aims to raise awareness and promote inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome. The symbolism of March 21st (3/21) reflects the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which is a characteristic of Down syndrome.
EES invites students, staff, and families to participate in the “Rock Your Socks” campaign by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks on March 21st. This tradition serves as a fun and visible way to show support, celebrate diversity, and spread awareness about the importance of acceptance and belonging.
How to Participate:
Wear your most colorful, mismatched socks on March 21st
Share a picture of your socks on social media to raise awareness
Take a moment to discuss inclusion, kindness, and acceptance with your children
“At Eagle Elementary, we are committed to fostering an inclusive school environment where all students feel valued and supported,” said Principal Kayzar. “World Down Syndrome Day is a meaningful opportunity for our school community to show solidarity, understanding, and appreciation for individuals of all abilities.”
PEASD Strengthens Partnership with UW-Whitewater to Support Future Educators
Eagle Elementary is also excited to highlight its ongoing collaboration with UW-Whitewater, reinforcing its commitment to shaping the next generation of educators. The Palmyra-Eagle Area School District (PEASD) supports aspiring teachers by offering real-world classroom experiences that enrich both college students and EES students.
These future educators are experiencing different aspects of teaching, student engagement, and classroom management under the guidance of experienced EES teachers. This partnership not only benefits the student teachers but also provides Eagle Elementary students with additional support, fresh perspectives, and mentorship opportunities.
“Our partnership with UW-Whitewater enhances learning for both college students and elementary students,” said Principal Kayzar. “By welcoming interns and field students into our classrooms, we are creating an environment where learning, mentorship, and hands-on teaching experiences thrive.”
This initiative reflects PEASD’s dedication to excellence in education, professional development, and collaborative learning experiences.
